IV.  Reports

A.  Terry Martin, Interim Provost

Thank you to the faculty for working so hard these past few semesters with covid.

Enrollment is slightly over 29,000.  A 5% increase over last year.  Over 6,000 new freshmen, the largest number ever.  Growth should provide some budgeting opportunities.

Covid numbers continue to increase on campus.  Several committees are monitoring the situation and several groups are being consulted as well.

Vaccination and testing continues.  57% of Arkansas Resident students; 61% of faculty/staff.  Rates are improving.  Please encourage everyone to become fully vaccinated.

Two nurses hired at Pat Walker Health Center to help with vaccinations and testing. CAPS also hiring additional mental health workers to help students.  Employee assistance program is also available to help with faculty/staff.  Faculty and staff can also be seen at CAPS.

ADA accomodations - Have worked to accomodate faculty who have requested accomodations.  All have received a reasonable accomodation.

Jason Battles - introduced.

Updated guidance for instructors re covid available on the Provost's website.

OEOC - where decisions about accomodations are made.

Football games given the go ahead before the Provost took on his role.  Thus, football games will continue.

B. Hunter Yurachek, Vice Chancellor & Dir Athletics

Recently announced change in donations for baseball.

JB and Johnelle Hunt facility completed.  Caused reseating and called for donations for all seats in the stadium.  These changes have impacted 87 faculty/staff season ticket holders.

Some faculty, staff and general public are upset, but 66% have come up to the level requested.

Everyone can keep their seats if they meet the donation level.

C. Mary Savin, Faculty Senate Chair

We've been busy this summer

On call faculty called on over the course of the summer as was the Executive Committee.  Many covid-19 meetings, town hall meetings and so on.  Felt the urgency to have an emergency meeting for a mask mandate.  All four governing bodies did sign on as did Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas Universities.    Thus, and with the ruling by the Judge in Pulaski County, we were able to have a mask mandate.

Masks should be available in all classrooms.  575-5050.

If you have questions about accomodations, please contact OEOC.

Have charged the nominations and elections committee to review our bylaws and discuss a proposal for having senators meet over the summer.   Need to have some way for us to meet over the summer in the case of emergencies.

Internal position changes at Chancellor and Provost levels. Will work to get information on the search processes.  Currently, an Interim Chancellor and an Interim Provost.  The Executive Committe did request that faculty be a part of the search process.

A.  Charles Robinson, Interim Chancellor

Thank you for the work you are doing

ADHE has requested an updated census of our vaccination rate; hopeful to see a considerable increase in our vaccination numbers.

Please get a flu shot!

Appreciates our resolutions.  Based on how things are going presently, does not see a need to go remote.  Believes our numbers are headed in the right direction, but will continue to monitor.

Beginning to think about raises.  Going to give as much as possible.

ASG President can be a great ambassodor for getting students to wear masks if needed.

Thank you to Terry Martin and his hard work.

B.  Terry Martin, Interim Provost

Thank you to faculty

Spring 2022 - planning for a semester like we currently have, but we still have some months to go.

Question regarding morale - It is difficult.  What have we learned and what can we bring forward to make this a better workplace???  Need to work on this to make our environment better.  It will take some time to get back to where we were.

Spring Break should be normal in the spring; that is the plan.

The fall grading process is back to the way it was before the pandemic.

C. Mary Savin, Faculty Senate Chair

UAF Faculty Senate Parliamentary Procedure

Thank you to the staff for Staff Appreciation Week

Accomodations to OEOC are due by November 1st.

New Director of Title IX Compliance, Shanita Pettaway.  University has taken several actions.

We currently have 54 senators.  Need to up date our enrollment policy with the BOT.

Favoritism towards having an orientation.

A.  Interim Provost - Terry Martin

Be sure to check out the new student success building.

Health and safety of campus important; students and parents want face to face learning; campus is divided.  In person is a fundamental aspect of the campus.

Driving reason for staying on campus - medical community said that classrooms are safe when everyone wore a mask.

Some classes need to be taught in person.

We know there will be remote classes and remote work for the staff for a variety of reasons.

Encouraging everyone to be flexible.

Let building executives know if the signs are not up to date.

KN95's are for "forward speaking" folks - Faculty, Staff,  Graduate Students

B.  Faculty Senate Chair - Mary Savin

Communication is important on campus

Concerns from the faculty per communication frequency from the upper administration and how it filters down, how messages are interpreted, perhaps mixed messages and miss communication.

On campus testing will help

Happy to see Kn95' s becoming available and being distributed.

Glad that the 6 feet of distance rule has been removed.  Masks should be enforced indoors.

A lot of people are going to get sick; there is going to be a lot of disruption.  We will have to pull together.

Charged the teaching council with how to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching. Should we continue to use our evaluation system or should we do something else or something in addition to??

Working on archive access to our Faculty Senate files.  But we need a better system for all of our information.  Looking into this.

Chancellor's Search Committee has been formed - 7 faculty on board..  Will be a topic at a Campus Faculty Meeting.

C.  HR - Debbie McCloud

Changes to the pay schedule will begin on March 31.
